Enhance Hygiene Security through Infection Management.

Working people spend on an average about one third of their time at the workplace. Working conditions have powerful effects on the health of an employee. The health of a working employee is a very important aspect for the individual him/herself, for the Organization as well as for the Country. It is easy to pass on or acquire infections at the modern workplace – This fact is demonstrated in numerous documentaries, Fiction & Movies (Contagion for instance). While the responsibility to not pass an infection is for the individual ; To Prevent acquired infection at the work place is the responsibility of the Organization, & this is not so difficult if paid proper attention to & having clear SOP’s being followed rigorously.

How do infectious diseases spread?

Infectious disease can spread in various ways which via transmission of pathogens from one person to other. Examples include-

  • Coughing or sneezing without covering will release airborne pathogens, which are then inhaled by others
  • Touching contaminated objects or eating contaminated food
  • Skin-to-skin contact through touch, or by sharing personal items, clothing or objects
  • Contact with body fluids

Hence it is important for employers or admin managers to take necessary Infection Management Actions to minimise the risk of spreading infectious diseases in the workplace.

How to manage?

There are number of ways it can be achieved

  • First and foremost - Have an infection control plan

  • Offer alcohol based hand sanitisers
  • Ensure that the office space is properly ventilated
  • Regular cleaning of the workplace environment with proper disinfectants will minimise the spread of infection by reducing workers' contact with contaminated surfaces.
  • Encourage worker for getting immunised against infectious disease / Provide immunisations to workers
  • Every workplace should have an appropriate first aid kit, with at least one staff member trained in first aid.
  • Personal protective equipment (for example, surgical masks, gloves, googles) should be provided if necessary.
  • Provide appropriate protection to staff who, by the nature of their work, may be required to have contact with people who are sick.

Hence it is important for employers or admin managers to take necessary Infection Management Actions to minimise the risk of spreading infectious diseases in the workplace.
